"Exploration, Meditation, Medication" I am providing consultation and teaching only.
After many years seeing patients of all ages and backgrounds, I have discontinued my clinical practicd. I've felt privileged to work with each and every one of my patients, and hope all have felt that we have had a collaborative, rich, and helpful working relationship.
There are many talented therapists and psychiatrists in Ann Arbor, including, but not limited to the clinicians with: the Mel Bornstein Clinic (www.melbornsteinclinic.org/), The Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute and Society (mipsychoanalysis.org/), the Michigan Council of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (mcpp.online/), and the Ann Arbor Center for Mindfulness (www.aacfm.org/)
I will continue to teach and supervise health care and mental health professionals. I will also be exploring, learning, and working in areas of meditation and awareness as catalysts for physician well-being and health system change. And I hope to explore the cross fertilization between meditation, Buddhist psychology, and Western psychotherapy.
I am maintaining this website, for now, and will continue to receive phone calls and messages at 734-926-9839.

Many things, within ourselves and outside of us, can and do interfere in our roles as students, teachers, adults, and professionals. It is often a challenge to see what we can truly influence. These problems in seeing and being with ourselves are products of life history, circumstances, and what each of us is "born with." Indeed, one's performance in relationships, athletics, the arts, business, the classroom, and the studio is critically dependent on what we are aware of and how we deal with ourselves.
Driven behaviors, and many shades of depression and anxiety are often present for adults and teens yet remain "unseen" or not otherwise dealt with by the individual (or child's parents) for complicated and always personal reasons.
Mindfully and Psychoanalytically Informed Psychotherapy (and Mindful practice) offer means to understand HOW, WHEN, and WHY things aren't working out in the ways you would like them to for yourself or your adolescent, and how and when feelings interfere You, or your adolescent with your help, can make choices as to HOW you would like to respond or adapt to work, school, or life situations without being burdened by past memories, "scripts", ruminative thoughts, or compulsive behaviors What is at stake is the rest of your or your child's life. Mindfulness infused psychotherapy asks you to courageously accept and study your fears and worries, and to explore yourself in the presence of another. It entails a substantial commitment of time and energy. But the payoffs can be tremendous in terms of work satisfaction, increased creativity and clarity, feeling more a full partner in your relationships, and often increased productivity.
